Gain the knowledge and hands-on skills to act confidently as the first aider in low-risk workplace settings. This Qualsafe Awards QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) course aligns with HSE and employer guidance for first aid competency in lower-risk environments.

You’ll learn how to recognise and respond to common first-aid emergencies—such as choking, bleeding, shock, CPR & AED use—in a structured and practical manner.

On success, you’ll receive a nationally recognised QA Level 3 Award in EFAW, valid for 3 years.

  • By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

    • Assess an incident and apply the DR (C) ABCDE approach

    • Perform adult CPR and AED use correctly

    • Manage choking, bleeding, shock, burns and seizures

    • Recognise when to escalate to advanced care

    • Maintain incident records, casualty handover, and first aid basics

Delivered via instructor-led sessions with scenario practice and theory:

  • Responsibilities of the first aider & legal framework

  • Scene assessment and casualty approach (DR (C) ABCDE)

  • Adult CPR and AED usage

  • Management of choking (adult)

  • Control of bleeding & shock

  • Burns, scalds and minor wounds

  • Seizures and unconsciousness recovery position

  • Roles & handover to paramedics

  • Practical scenario stations with coached feedback

  • Instructor-led training aligned to HSE/EFAW standards
  • Qualsafe learner registration + QA Level 3 EFAW e-certificate on passing
  • Learner materials: handbook, quick reference sheets, incident report forms
  • All training equipment: manikins, AED trainers, bandaging kits, gloves & hygiene consumables
  • Skills stations & real-world mini-scenarios with guided feedback
  • Formal assessment: theory & practical tasks
  • CPD evidence (~7 guided learning hours) & refresher reminders

To make sure the course runs safely and smoothly, please check that learners are able to meet the basic requirements below before booking.

  • Age: 16+ on day one
  • English & numeracy: Able to read, understand and complete assessments in English
  • Physical capability: Comfortable kneeling or floor-based practice (CPR, casualty turns)
  • Attendance: Full day attendance required to complete assessment
  • Photo ID: Bring valid ID for registration
  • Prior learning (optional): Basic first aid experience is helpful but not required
