Level 2 First Aid for Mental Health

On completing this course, learners will be able to:

• Recognise more complex or deteriorating mental health signs

• Conduct advanced conversations using structured mental first aid tools

• Manage crisis interventions (suicidal thoughts, self-harm, psychosis) safely

• Create action plans and signpost to mental health resources

• Maintain boundaries, self-care, and referral best practice

This qualification blends theory, role-play, case studies and structured tools. Modules include:

• Review of foundational mental health awareness

• Deeper understanding of anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar, psychosis, trauma

• Crisis states: self-harm, suicidal ideation, substance misuse, aggression

• Structured support model (e.g. extended ALGEE or similar framework)

• Communication skills: advanced questioning, motivational interviewing, boundary setting

• Risk assessment, safeguarding and referral pathways

• Scenario drills & role-play of distress and crisis response

• Reflection, self-care and peer support in mental health first aid

• Instructor-led workshop sessions with mental health professionals

• TL Training registration + Level 2 Mental Health First Aid certificate on completion

• Learning toolkit: handbook, frameworks, case study guides, referral templates

• Role-play and scenario materials

• Refreshments & free parking (for centre-based)

Before booking, learners should meet:

• Age: 18+ (or 16+ with consent)

• Level 1 MHFA or equivalent mental health awareness experience recommended

• Communication ability: Able to read, write, and communicate in English

• Emotional capacity: Comfortable discussing sensitive topics

• Attendance: Full course attendance required for certification

• Photo ID: Valid ID for registration
