Location: Nationwide

Course Overview

This NPORS Compact Crane (N140) course equips candidates with the skills and competence to operate compact / light mobile cranes under supervision or within their scope of work. Training is delivered on-site at your premises using your own compact crane equipment, allowing practical application in your working environment.

On successful completion, delegates receive the NPORS N140 Compact Crane card, recognised across construction, utilities, and industrial sectors.

Who is this course for?

Ideal for operators, maintenance staff, or site teams who:

  • Work with compact cranes or telescopic boom trucks

  • Support lifting operations and need competence in crane operation

  • Want to formalise crane operation skills under NPORS standards

Course Durations & Structure

How long the course takes depends on your experience and current role. Choose the option below that best fits your background.

This is the full training programme for those new to compact crane operations.

It covers all theoretical and practical elements — including legislation, pre-use checks, setup, safe lifting techniques, signalling, and end-of-shift procedures.

Ideal for operators who have no prior experience operating cranes or lifting equipment.

Designed for operators who have hands-on experience using cranes or similar lifting machinery but do not yet hold an NPORS or equivalent qualification.

Training time focuses on refining existing practical skills, reinforcing current legislation, and preparing for NPORS theory and practical assessments.

Suitable for delegates who currently hold or previously held an NPORS Compact Crane (N140) card that is nearing expiry.

The duration depends on how recently the delegate was last certified and their level of operational activity.

Typically 1 day for active users, or 2 days where refresher practice is needed before reassessment.

Please note: Course durations are provided as a guide only. Actual training time may vary based on candidate ability, experience, and assessment results in line with NPORS standards.

My experience with TL training has been fantastic, my first visit was to complete a refresher course on a counterbalance and my second visit was a 2 week RTITB instructor course with Ian Tedd, the place has a really relaxed but safe training environment, and occasionally the director Trev would make time to pop in and check in, fantastic outfit and well run by all involved, couldn’t recommend a better place for all your training needs. Thanks again TL training

Excellent instructors and great training site. Had the pleasure of doing my novice FLT course with Gwynn, who was very patient with me and the two other people on the course, he gave us all the information we needed to pass first time, great banter too. One of the best instructors I've received training from. Recommend this place to anyone looking for the training they offer.

Recently undertook my Forklift training with ‘TL Training’. J.S was our instructor for the duration of the 4 day course, who’s highly knowledgeable and was happy to answer any questions or issue we had regarding the training. The course given was excellent and j.s was highly approachable all week. I Would massively recommend anyone to come to TL Training who has a course/training programme that they need to complete.
