Course Durations & Structure
How long the course takes depends on your experience and current role. Choose the option below that best fits your background.
For operators new to loading and securing plant. Includes both theory and hands-on practice covering vehicle preparation, machine positioning, and securing methods.
For those with prior experience but no formal certification. Focuses on reinforcing safe working methods, legal responsibilities, and correct use of restraints.
For current or recently expired NPORS N120 cardholders (within 6 months of expiry). Includes a short recap of key principles followed by a full theory and practical assessment.
Please note: Durations are approximate. Actual training time may vary depending on delegate numbers, experience, and assessment results.
Entry Requirements
To ensure the course runs safely and effectively, all delegates must meet the minimum physical and occupational standards required under NPORS and BS7121 guidelines.
Be aged 18 or over on the first day of training.
Have basic literacy and numeracy skills to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
Be physically fit, in good general health, and capable of safely completing all practical elements of the training and assessment.
Learners should not suffer from medical conditions that could affect their ability to participate safely, such as:
Impaired eyesight or hearing
Heart disease or high blood pressure
Epilepsy or impaired limb function
Alcohol or drug dependence
Psychiatric illness or similar health concerns
Meet the general prerequisites (aged 18+, physically fit, medically suitable).
Have basic English literacy and numeracy for written assessments.
Be able to actively participate in practical exercises involving physical tasks.
No previous loading or securing experience required.
Meet all general prerequisites.
Have previous experience loading, unloading, or securing plant or machinery for transport.
Provide evidence of experience, such as:
Employer reference or statement of competence
Recent transport records, photos, or site logs.
Be familiar with plant types, restraint systems, and loading procedures.
Hold a current or recently expired NPORS Plant Loader and Securer (N120) or equivalent qualification.
Provide evidence of continued experience in plant loading and transport operations.
Meet all general prerequisites.
Be able to demonstrate knowledge of current DVSA and NPORS best practice.

Restraint systems — chains, straps, tensioners, and chocks — in safe, serviceable condition.
Safe working area with adequate space and level ground.
Classroom or indoor area for theory delivery.
