Commercial Goods Vehicle Banksperson Training

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

• Understand the legal requirements and risks associated with vehicle manoeuvring

• Carry out safe signalling procedures for reversing and blind spots

• Use agreed hand signals and communication systems effectively

• Identify and control common site hazards

• Work safely around large vehicles and restricted spaces

• Follow site-specific traffic management plans

• Introduction to workplace transport safety

• HSE guidance and legal duties (HSAWA, PUWER, INDG199)

• Roles and responsibilities of the driver and banksman

• Site layouts, traffic routes and risk assessment

• Correct signalling and communication techniques

• Safe systems of work for reversing and manoeuvring

• Visibility, blind spots and lighting considerations

• Practical demonstrations and assessment

To ensure the course runs safely and effectively, all delegates should:

• Be aged 16 or over

• Have a good understanding of spoken and written English

• Be physically capable of taking part in any demonstrations or light practical activities

No prior experience or formal qualifications are required — all courses start with the fundamentals and build knowledge step by step.

Each course is limited to a maximum of 4 delegates per session to ensure safe, effective learning and plenty of individual support.
We recommend a minimum of 2-3 participants to encourage meaningful discussion and teamwork during exercises.

• Venue access: Our centre has step-free access, accessible toilets and parking; on-site training can be adapted to your space—ask us for specific arrangements.
