By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
Perform infant & child CPR and manage choking in emergencies
Recognise and respond to seizures, anaphylaxis, asthma and other child medical crises
Treat wounds, burns, fractures, head injuries and shock in children
Safely manage and hand over a paediatric casualty to professional services
Use effective incident documentation, communication and referral
This is typically delivered as a blend of theory and hands-on skills work:
Role & responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
Child vs infant anatomical differences & implications for care
CPR & airway management (infant & child)
Choking (infant & child)
Seizures and febrile convulsions
Medical emergencies: asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, meningitis
Injury management: burns, bleeding, fractures, head/neck trauma
Scenario drills: practice in simulated paediatric emergencies
Practical assessments and coached feedback
Instructor-led training with specialist paediatric first aid trainers
Learner registration and certificate upon successful completion
Course materials: handbook, quick reference cards, incident forms
Full paediatric training kit: infant/child manikins, AED trainers, bandages, consumables
Hands-on scenario stations and skills drills
Formal assessment: observation and written questions
CPD evidence and refresher reminders

Age: 16+ on day 1
English & numeracy: Able to read, understand and complete assessments in English
Physical capability: Comfortable kneeling, performing CPR and handling infants/children in emergencies
Attendance: Full attendance required for assessment & certification
Photo ID: Valid identification required for registration
No prior qualification required, though previous paediatric or first aid training is useful
