Course Overview

Gain the in-depth knowledge and hands-on capabilities to act as a fully competent first aider in higher-risk workplace settings. This Qualsafe QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) is designed to comply with HSE requirements for first aid in more complex or higher-risk environments.

Over three days, you’ll dive into advanced resuscitation, multi-casualty incidents, casualty assessment, major trauma, medical emergencies, and extended care.

On successful completion, you’ll receive a QA Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three years.

  • Organisations where low-risk first aid is insufficient

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  • Conduct detailed patient assessments and prioritise multiple casualties

  • Perform advanced resuscitation techniques and manage airway emergencies

  • Respond to major trauma, medical emergencies, seizures, strokes and more

  • Provide extended care safely while awaiting ambulance arrival

  • Document incidents, lead first-aid teams, and maintain first-aid provision standards

Structured module-by-module (theory + practice + scenario work):

  • Legal framework, roles & responsibilities

  • Primary & secondary survey, casualty assessment

  • Advanced CPR & airway management

  • Choking (adult), severe bleeding & shock, burns, spinal injury

  • Medical emergencies: cardiac arrest, asthma, anaphylaxis, poisoning, diabetic emergencies

  • Head, spinal & musculoskeletal trauma; fractures & dislocations

  • Seizures, stroke (FAST), unconsciousness & postural hypotension

  • Multi-casualty incidents & triage basics

  • Extended care: monitoring vital signs, repositioning, hypothermia

  • Practical stations & coached scenario drills

  • Assessment: written exam and observed practicals

  • Instructor-led training aligned to HSE / FAW standards

  • Qualsafe learner registration & QA Level 3 FAW e-certificate on passing

  • Learner materials: handbook, checklists, incident forms

  • Full training kit: manikins, AED trainers, oxygen & bag-valve masks, bandages, splints etc.

  • Skills stations & realistic scenario-based drills

  • Formal assessment: theory test + practical demonstration

  • CPD evidence (~18–21 guided learning hours) & refresher reminders

  • Refreshments and free parking (at training centres)

To make sure the course runs safely and smoothly, please check that learners are able to meet the basic requirements below before booking.

    • Age: 16+ on day one

    • English & numeracy: Able to read, write and complete assessments in English

    • Physical capability: Able to kneel, bend, and perform resuscitation practice

    • Attendance: Full three days required for assessment & certification

    • Photo ID: Valid photo identification required for registration

    • Prior learning (optional): EFAW or emergency responder experience is beneficial but not required
