Overview

The course provides novice operators with the skills needed to operate the both the counterbalance & reach forklift trucks safely and efficiently.

This course enables successful operators to use any counterbalance up to a 5000 kg lifting capacity & reach truck upto a 8m lifting height (with authorisation) anywhere in the UK.

Who can take this course?

This course is ideal for individuals who are new to forklift truck operation, those who haven’t operated forklifts for a while, or those with experience operating counterbalance trucks outside the UK. While open to all, it’s important to understand that this course is rigorous and demanding. We strongly advise candidates to arrange a free assessment at our centre before booking to ensure suitability.

How long will it take?

It takes about 42 hours, over a period of 7 consecutive days. (Course duration may be reduced to 4 days if fewer than 3 candidates are on a course).

What qualification do I receive?

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded an AITT Certificate for each truck which is valid for 3 years. After this period, the successful delegate will be required to attend a 1-day refresher course.

Additionally, candidates’ details will be uploaded to the ACORNS database, facilitating easy verification of the certificate(s) by current or prospective employers.

What are the requirements?

Candidates must be at least 18 years old and demonstrate a proficient understanding of written and spoken English. Upon arrival for training, candidates will be required to present photographic identification to verify their identity.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

This package includes a 5-day Counterbalance Novice course followed by a 2-day Reach Truck Conversion course. Candidates must successfully complete the Counterbalance Novice course to progress to the Reach Truck course. Candidates who do not pass the Counterbalance course within the specified timeframe will be excluded from the course without a refund. It’s important to note that this course is highly demanding and rigorous.

How do I book this course?

How long is my certificate valid?

Your certificate remains valid for 3 years. After this period, you’ll need to attend a 1-day course to refresh your knowledge and stay updated on any new or amended legislation.

How many additional participants will be joining the course alongside me?

Courses are capped at a maximum of 3 candidates per instructor, guaranteeing ample one-to-one interaction with our instructors. Additionally, candidates benefit from observing and learning from their peers, fostering skill development within the group.

Will there be a test at the conclusion of the course?

Yes, candidates will need to complete both a written theory test and a practical skills test as components of the course.

What is covered?

The 5-day Counterbalance Novice course provides comprehensive training in operating counterbalance forklifts, covering forklift controls, load handling, safety protocols, and maintenance.

Upon successful completion, candidates can advance to the 2-day Reach Truck Conversion course. Here, they refine their skills to operate reach trucks safely and efficiently, covering reach truck controls, stability, load handling, and specialized safety.

Together, these courses equip participants with the competence to operate both counterbalance and reach trucks, enhancing their forklift operation skills.
