IOSH Managing Safely Training

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

• Understand employer and employee responsibilities under health and safety law.

• Identify common hazards and evaluate workplace risks.

• Apply risk control strategies and monitoring techniques.

• Investigate and report workplace incidents effectively.

• Promote a positive health and safety culture within their team or organisation.

The IOSH Managing Safely syllabus includes:

• Introducing Managing Safely

• Assessing risks

• Controlling risks

• Understanding responsibilities

• Identifying hazards

• Investigating incidents

• Measuring performance

Each topic is reinforced through interactive group discussions, case studies, and short activities to apply learning to real-world scenarios.

To ensure the course runs safely and effectively, all delegates should:

• Be aged 16 or over

• Have a good understanding of spoken and written English

• Be physically capable of taking part in any demonstrations or light practical activities

No prior experience or formal qualifications are required — all courses start with the fundamentals and build knowledge step by step.

Each course is limited to a maximum of 12 delegates per session to ensure safe, effective learning and plenty of individual support. 

Delegates who successfully complete both the theory assessment and practical risk assessment project will receive:

• An IOSH Managing Safely Certificate (digital format only)

This qualification is valid indefinitely, although IOSH recommends refreshing knowledge every 3 years to stay up to date with legislation and best practices.

We want everyone to feel confident and supported—tell us what you need and we’ll do our best to help.

• Reasonable adjustments: We can provide adjustments (e.g., extra time, rest breaks, adapted assessment methods) in line with awarding-body rules—without compromising safety or competence.

• How to request: Tell us about any learning, access, health or language needs before the course so we can plan support.

• Examples of support: Larger-print materials, quieter seating, alternative demonstration positions, scheduled breaks, adapted practical roles.

• Health considerations: Please let us know about injuries, mobility limits, pregnancy or conditions that may affect practicals; we’ll tailor activities where safe to do so.

• Venue access: Our centre has step-free access, accessible toilets and parking; on-site training can be adapted to your space—ask us for specific arrangements.
