Asbestos is a term used for a group of minerals made of microscopic fibres. Coming into contact with asbestos can be detrimental to your health. Before its dangers were known, asbestos was often used within the building industry. It would be used for insulation, flooring and roofing, and sprayed on ceiling and walls. Though asbestos is now banned from use in the UK, buildings constructed before the year 2000 may still contain asbestos.
The asbestos awareness training course is designed for anyone who may come into contact with asbestos within their work environment. For example:
- Construction workers
- Maintenance staff
- Electricians
- Heating engineers
- Decorators/plasterers
- Gas fitters
- Demolition worker
(as well as many other trades/businesses.)
This course supports workers in their understanding of the risks associated with the material so that they are able to work safely.
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR) apply to employers, employees, self-employed persons and duty holders. The regulations cover all work with asbestos containing materials. Regulation 10 of CAR states that every employer must ensure that adequate information, instructions and training is given to employees who are liable to be exposed to asbestos. This includes maintenance workers and others who may come into contact with or disturb asbestos.
Our Asbestos Awareness Training course is very informative. You will learn ways in which to prevent asbestos disturbances, the necessary precautions to take before commencing your work and the importance of stopping your work if you have any doubts about any materials found with your work area.
Other key topics covered in the course include:
- Asbestos and its effect on our health
- Typical asbestos containing materials
- Typical locations of ACMs within buildings
- Actions to take if you suspect the presence of asbestos
