So, what are you waiting for? Read on to learn more.

Basic First Aid For Cardiac Arrest

One of the most important medical procedures that you should know is CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). If CPR is not performed on a person who has a cardiac arrest (when the heart no longer pumps blood), they can die. If you use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) or perform CPR, you could save a life. Learn the basics of CPR. It is always best to take CPR classes from a first aid training centre, such as TL Training. An AED is a device that is easy to use even when you have not received any training.

The American Heart Association have issued the following guidelines when you suspect someone has a cardiac arrest:

  • • Have someone contact the emergency services
  • • Start the chest compressions immediately regardless of whether you have been adequately trained or not. You should compress fast and hard at the centre of the chest to allow recoil between the compressions. As soon as someone trained arrives, have them continue with the procedure.
  • • Use rescue breathing and chest compressions if you are trained.
  • • Since chest compressions should not be delayed, an AED has to be used.

Basic First Aid for Bleeding

When faced with bleeding, the following steps should be taken:

  • • The wound should be covered with a cloth or gauze.
  • • Make sure to apply direct pressure to put an end to the blood flow. The cloth should not be removed.
  • • Do not apply a tourniquet as it would end up doing more damage than good.

Basic First Aid for Burns

To treat a burn, the first thing that you need to do is put an end to the burning process. The chemicals have to be cleaned off. Make sure to turn off the electricity. Cooldown the heat with running water. Victims of sunburn should either go inside or cover-up. The burning needs to be stopped before it can be treated. Pour cool running water for a few minutes to stop the burn. However, you should never use ice. Then, you can apply the bandage. Avoid applying oily remedies, butter, or ointments. For pain relief, paracetamol or ibuprofen should be taken.
