Anyone who wants to drive vehicles greater than 3.5 tonnes are required to complete this course. The course equips candidates to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes. Once you hold your C1 license, you can build on it take the relevant training to enable you to drive heavier and larger vehicles.
The aim of this course is to provide drivers with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to travel in a safe and efficient manner.
Drivers who passed their driving test prior to 01/01/1997 should have acquired rights. This basically means that your license gives you entitlement to gain your C1 license. You are also required to gain a driver CPC qualification. This involves attending courses on various aspects of professional driving. These candidates are required to complete 35 hours of the relevant training every 5 years in order to maintain their CPC qualification.
Drivers who past their driving test after the date mentioned above will not be entitled to drive vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. These candidates will be required to sit a practical driving test if they wish to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes, as well as undertaking a driver medical examination and passing a theory test before applying for a provisional C1 license.
