With a renewed national interest in this profession, there has never been a better time to get qualified as an HGV or LGV driver. The industry is growing fast, and there are plenty of opportunities for those with the right skills and qualifications.

Why Undertake HGV Driver Training?

As any business owner knows, one of the critical components to a successful operation is having a reliable and proficient workforce. But, in today’s economy, finding qualified and experienced employees can be challenging. This is especially true in the transport and logistics sector, where there is currently a shortage of qualified HGV drivers. Thus, investing in HGV driver training can be a great way to ensure your business has the qualified personnel it needs to thrive.

In addition to being in high demand, those looking to become an HGV or LGV driver can also earn a very competitive salary. In fact, the average salary for an HGV driver in the UK is £32,478 per year. And with such a wide range of industries requiring goods to be transported by HGVs – from construction to food and drink – there are plenty of opportunities for work.

So if you’re looking for a career with excellent earning potential and plenty of job prospects, or you’re a business that desperately needs more qualified drivers, HGV driver training is definitely worth considering.

What Types of HGV and LGV Training Are Available To Drivers in Wrexham?

There are three main types of licence that allow drivers to operate HGVs or LGVs:

  • Category C+E (also known as Class 1): With this licence, the driver can operate a vehicle that is 7.5 tonnes or more with a detachable trailer. These are often larger vehicles and can be used for routes over a longer distance.
  • Category C (also known as Class 2): This licence is for any HGV over 7.5 tonnes with a rigid body base. The cab will not come apart from the trailer with this type of class. These may include refuse collection vehicles and fire engines, to name but a few.
  • Category C1: This licence is necessary any time the HGV is more than 3.5 tonnes but under 7.5 tonnes. Drivers who passed their driving test before 1997 will automatically get one of these licences. Anyone who passed after that date must take another test to receive it.
