In order to attend one of our LGV and HGV courses, candidates must be 18 or over and already hold a full category B driving license.

The LGV/HGV training courses that we offer to candidates living/working in Chester are detailed below:

Category C1

This course is aimed to train drivers to travel in a safe and efficient manner. The course is perfect for candidates who want to drive vehicles such as ambulances, horse boxes, delivery trucks and home removal trucks. If you passed your driving test prior to 1st January 1997 you should have acquired rights (Cat C1 entitlement on your driving license). You will also need a Driver CPC qualification. This involves attending courses on various aspects of professional driving. You are required to complete 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to maintain your CPC. If you passed your driving test after 1st January 1997 you are not entitled to drive a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes. You will be required to sit a practical driving test if you wish to drive a vehicle up to 7.5 tonnes. You are also required to undertake a driver medical examination before applying for a provisional C1 license as well as passing a theory test.

Category C

Those who hold this license are able to drive any large good vehicle without a trailer (rigid body trailer). This course is designed for those who wish to drive vehicles 7.5 tonnes – 32 tonnes, for example fire engines, roadside recovery vehicles, home and commercial removal vehicles and gritters. Once you’ve passed your Category C training your license will be upgraded with the C + E provisional entitlement allowing you to begin your C+E training.

Category C + E

Aimed at those who want to drive articulated Lorries with separate cab and trailers, up to 44 tonnes (also known as an Artic or Class 1 or an HGV). You must have your Category C license in order to begin this training.

Category C1 + E

Module 4 DCPC Practical Safety Demonstration

The module 4 is a practical demonstration test carried out by a TL Training registered DSA examiner. During the test candidates must demonstrate competence when carrying out a variety of security checks on your vehicle. MOD 4 certificates will be issued on completion and passing of test.
