At TL Training, we provide HGV/LGV driver training courses in Wirral. Our courses prepare those working and operating in the transport industry to gain their LGV Category C1, C, or C+ E license. Thus allowing them to drive vehicles of 7.5 tonnes plus.
In order to attend the courses, drivers must be aged 18 or over and have their full category B driving license.
HGV/LGV Training Courses In Wirral
TL Training offers the following HGV/LGV courses in Wirral:
Category C1
Aimed at those who want to drive ambulances, horse boxes, delivery trucks and home removal trucks. This course trains drivers to travel in a safe and efficient manner. If you passed your driving test prior to 1st January 1997 you should have acquired rights (Cat C1 entitlement on your driving license). You will also need a Driver CPC qualification. This involves attending courses on various aspects of professional driving. You are required to complete 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to maintain your CPC. If you passed your driving test after 1st January 1997 you are not entitled to drive a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes. You will be required to sit a practical driving test if you wish to drive a vehicle up to 7.5 tonnes. You are also required to undertake a driver medical examination before applying for a provisional C1 license as well as passing a theory test.
Category C
Aimed at those who want to drive vehicles 7.5 tonnes-32 tonnes, eg, fire engine, roadside recovery vehicles, home and commercial removal vehicles and gritters. Category C license holders are able to drive any large good vehicle without a trailer (rigid body vehicle). Once you’ve passed your Category C training your license will be upgraded with the C + E provisional entitlement allowing you to begin your C+E training.
Category C + E
Aimed at those who want to drive articulated lorries with separate cab and trailers, up to 44 tonnes(also known as an Artic or Class 1 or an HGV). You must have your Category C license in order to begin this training.
Category C1 + E
Also referred to as 7.5 tonne plus trailer. The category is an upgrade on the C1 licence and can only be taken once the licence holder has passed a C1 test.

Module 4 DCPC Practical Safety Demonstration
This course will be carried out by a TL Training registered DSA examiner. You will be requires to demonstrate competence when carrying out a number of security checks on your vehicle. You will be observed by an examiner. You are able to bring your own suitable vehicle (C1/C/C+E/D1 or D) with you to the test. You will be required to show your driving license and module 2 certificate.
Yard Shunter
This course aims to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries on site by teaching drivers to carry out safe manoeuvres and respond to recommended code of signals. You will be required to carry out manoeuvres such as reversing, trailer coupling and uncoupling and be aware of the company’s safety procedures.
