Each delegate receives a workbook they can refer back to after the course, and upon completion, they’ll receive an IOSH certificate that doesn’t expire (though refreshing knowledge over time is sensible).
The course costs £150 plus VAT per person when delivered at our Bromborough training centre. If you’re booking multiple employees or need on-site delivery, that pricing structure can shift depending on your requirements.
IOSH Managing Safely: Strategic Training for Supervisors and Team Leaders
IOSH Managing Safely takes everything a step further. This qualification is aimed squarely at managers, supervisors, and anyone with responsibility for other people’s safety. If someone in your business oversees a team, makes decisions about work activities, or has accountability for how tasks are carried out, Managing Safely is the course they should be taking.
The programme runs over three consecutive days, totalling around 21 hours of training. Content includes risk assessment in greater depth, understanding your legal duties as someone in a management position, investigating incidents properly, creating a positive safety culture within your team, and measuring health and safety performance over time. You’ll also cover how to communicate safety expectations effectively and how to implement controls that actually work in practice.
Unlike Working Safely, Managing Safely does include assessments. Delegates complete activities and a final project that tests their ability to apply what they’ve learned to real workplace scenarios. The certificate you receive carries significant weight, particularly if you’re tendering for contracts, dealing with regulatory audits, or simply proving competence to stakeholders.
Managing Safely is priced at £395 plus VAT per person for our centre-based courses. Given the length and depth of content, this represents a more substantial investment, but one that equips your managers with the capability to lead safety improvements rather than just follow basic protocols.
IOSH also recommends that anyone holding a Managing Safely certificate takes a refresher course every three years. We offer a one-day IOSH Managing Safely Refresher at £175 plus VAT, which updates delegates on legislative changes, revisits key principles, and reinforces their understanding without repeating the full three-day programme.

You might also find that some roles sit somewhere in between. Shift supervisors, site coordinators, or anyone with limited management responsibility can benefit from Working Safely initially, with a view to progressing to Managing Safely if their role expands. There’s no rule that says you have to train everyone identically. Tailoring your approach to match responsibility levels makes better use of your budget and gets more relevant outcomes.
