LGV Courses
Our LGV training courses are split into 4 categories:
Category C1
A course designed for those aiming to drive a vehicle up to and including 7.5 tonnes (eg. Ambulance, horsebox, grocery delivery trucks, small home removal trucks). Drivers who passed their driving test before 01/01/1997 will usually have cat C1 entitlement on their driving license (also known as acquired rights). If you wish to drive professionally you will also need a driver CPC qualification. This involves attending courses on various aspects of professional driving. Drivers who passed their driving test after the date stated above are not entitled to drive vehicles that exceed 3.5 tonnes. These candidates will be required to take a practical driving test.
Category C
This license is one held by most LGV drivers in the UK. This license is aimed at those wanting to drive vehicles such as tipper trucks, bin lorries, articulated lorries and the heaviest box trucks. Once you have passed your Cat C your license will be upgraded with the C+E provisional entitlement allowing you to train to drive a C+E (articulated vehicle) if you wish.
Category C+E
This is the highest of the LGV license classes. Only those drivers holding this license can drive the largest and heaviest HGVs and construction equipment now on the road. It is for vehicles with a maximum authorised mass in excess of 7.5 tonnes with trailers heavier than 750kg. Once you have acquired your Cat C entitlement, you can begin your Cat C+E training. You are not required to repeat Driver CPC Part 1 (hazard perception & theory test).
Category C1+1
This lower class license covers vehicles between 3.5 tonnes and 7.5 tonnes with trailers of 750kg or more. This might include a large cargo van with a utility trailer or a smaller tipper truck built on a standard truck chassis.
