The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) covers injury, illness, CPR, choking, anaphylaxis and more—balanced across theoretical insights and hands-on practice.

Designed for childcare staff, community workers, parents and guardians, this training is both rigorous and practical. On passing, you’ll receive a nationally recognised Level 3 Paediatric First Aid certificate, valid for 3 years.

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  • Perform paediatric CPR and manage choking in infants/children

  • Recognise and respond to medical emergencies (fits, asthma, diabetes, allergic reaction)

  • Treat injuries, bleeding, burns, fractures and shock in children

  • Understand safeguarding, child development effects and first aid policies

  • Document incidents, hand over responsibly and provide ongoing care

Here’s a structured module breakdown:

  • Roles of first aider and legal framework for paediatric scenarios

  • Child vs adult anatomy: differences and implications

  • Infant & child CPR, choking, airway management

  • Medical emergencies: seizures, asthma, anaphylaxis, croup, diabetic emergencies

  • Injuries: fractures, sprains, head injuries, burns, bleeding

  • External conditions: heat/cold exposure, bites, poisoning

  • Safeguarding, safeguarding consent, dealing with parents

  • Scenario drills: child/infant emergencies, safe transfer & positioning

  • Practical assessments and guided feedback

  • Instructor-led training delivered by paediatric first aid experts

  • Qualsafe learner registration & Level 3 Paediatric First Aid certificate upon passing

  • Course materials: handbook, quick reference cards, incident reporting forms

  • Training equipment: infant/child manikins, AED trainers, bandages, first-aid consumables

  • Scenario & skills stations for infant and child care practice

  • Formal assessment: written scenario questions + practical assessments

Before booking, learners must meet:

  • Age: 16+ on the first day

  • English & numeracy: Able to read, understand and complete assessments in English

  • Physical capability: Able to kneel, bend and perform infant/child CPR & practical tasks

  • Attendance: Full attendance required for certification

  • Photo ID: Valid photo identification required for registration

  • No prior qualification required — this course is open to all caring individuals
