Our Manual Handling Training Course helps employees understand how to lift, carry, push and pull loads safely — reducing the risk of workplace injury.

Delivered in-person by experienced instructors, the course combines engaging theory with practical demonstrations tailored to your workplace.
Training can be delivered as a TL Training in-house course, or optionally accredited through AITT or RTITB for customers requiring accredited certification.

By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Understand the key principles of safe manual handling

  • Recognise common risks and injuries associated with poor technique

  • Learn correct posture and lifting methods

  • Know how to plan and assess a lift safely

  • Understand the importance of team lifting, mechanical aids, and ergonomics

  • Apply practical techniques to real workplace tasks

  • Overview of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992

  • Employer and employee responsibilities

  • Anatomy and common manual handling injuries

  • TILE assessment (Task, Individual, Load, Environment)

  • Principles of safe lifting, carrying and lowering

  • Using handling aids and equipment

  • Team handling and communication

  • Practical demonstrations and supervised practice

  • Evaluation and feedback

To ensure the course runs safely and effectively, all delegates should:

  • Be aged 16 or over

  • Have a good understanding of spoken and written English

  • Be physically capable of taking part in any demonstrations or light practical activities

No prior experience or formal qualifications are required — all courses start with the fundamentals and build knowledge step by step.

Each course is limited to a maximum of 6 delegates per session to ensure a safe, effective learning environment and plenty of one-to-one support from the instructor.

We recommend a minimum of 3–4 delegates per session to encourage meaningful group discussion and shared learning experiences.

We want everyone to feel confident and supported—tell us what you need and we’ll do our best to help.

  • Reasonable adjustments: We can provide adjustments (e.g., extra time, rest breaks, adapted assessment methods) in line with awarding-body rules—without compromising safety or competence.

  • How to request: Tell us about any learning, access, health or language needs before the course so we can plan support.

  • Examples of support: Larger-print materials, quieter seating, alternative demonstration positions, scheduled breaks, adapted practical roles.

  • Health considerations: Please let us know about injuries, mobility limits, pregnancy or conditions that may affect practicals; we’ll tailor activities where safe to do so.

  • Venue access: Our centre has step-free access, accessible toilets and parking; on-site training can be adapted to your space—ask us for specific arrangements.
