LIONEL
Have you ever had to call the emergency services to report an incident or accident? Though it may seem like something that is quite simple, when faced with an emergency we can often become overwhelmed and panicked and calling 999 can be very daunting.
The most important thing to do in this situation is to give clear and useful information. Using LIONEL will cover all bases so the emergency services can prioritise your call and know exactly what to expect when they arrive at the scene.
Gather as much information as you can before you make the call and be clear with your instructions.
Location
Where are you? Will the emergency services be able to find you easily? Will they have access to you straight away? Are there any gates etc. blocking their access?
Incident
What has happened? Be precise! If you do not fully know what has happened, do not tell the emergency services an untrue version of what you think may have happened. This is very important!
Other Services Required
Do you require other emergency services? E.g. The police or fire service.
Number Of Casualties
How many people are involved?
Extent Of Injuries
How serious do the casualties injuries look? Have you provided any first aid? Again, be factual and do not give facts which may not be true.
Location Confirmation
Again state the location of the incident.
